About Us

Our Background

In 2015, the top 5 common cancers in Hong Kong were colorectal, lung, breast, prostate and liver cancer. Colorectal cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer are, in particular, rising in an alarming manner.

As shown in Figure 2, the discrepancy between the number of new cases (incidence) and number of deaths (mortality) is much higher for colorectal, breast and prostate cancer as compared to other cancers. One of the possible reasons is most of these cancers could be found at their earlier stage.
Therefore, with the aim to combat the rising incidence and mortality of these obesity-related cancers, a Multi-cancer Prevention Programme has been conducted by CUHK from 2018.

1st “one-stop” cancer screening programme in HK
CUHK Jockey Club Multi-Cancer Prevention Programme is the first programme which employed the one-stop approach to screen multiple cancers as well as to promote lifestyle modification in Hong Kong.

The concept of a one-stop approach to screen multiple cancers is relatively novel. According to medical literatures, one-stop screening could enhance the adherence of multiple cancer screening. In the recent decade, there are emerging centres that have been established as multi-cancer screening clinics in different countries.

Mission and Vision

Multi-cancer Education and Prevention Programme for the Prevention of Obesity-related Cancers aims to:

  1. Offer education and enhance self-care capacity of the general population on prevention and screening of obesity-related cancers, especially in regions of Hong Kong with higher educational needs, as well as for the social welfare and commercial sectors;
  2. Provide an educational hub accessible to all Hong Kong citizens offering advice on comprehensive, tailor-made cancer prevention strategies;
  3. Provide free-of-charge, evidence-based screening for colorectal, breast and prostate cancer to residents who are eligible, thus facilitating early cancer detection and treatment;
  4. Train cancer ambassadors and volunteer speakers to substantiate community education on cancer and its preventive measures;
  5. Establish protocol for screening of obesity-related cancer for consideration by policy makers
